Wild Chicory or Common Chicory found whilst walking up near Old Wimpole, Arrington. I’ve noticed that lots of farmers are leaving a wild grassland/meadow strip at the edge of their land now for insects, birds butterflies, bees and amphibian life. Wild Chicory stands tall with the flowers on short stalks close to the stem like satellite dishes! The petals look like they have been cut with pinking shears at the edge. The colour is a wonderful blue purple through to pink and even white. Love the little snail 🐌. You can eat chicory leaves and the bulb. Chicory and pear salad is delicious. Does anybody remember Camps Coffee Extract? My Grandmother had a bottle in her kitchen cupboard and I know that Pat, @grampsnorton7 mum, used it in her coffee and walnut cake - the best! 😋 Have a lovely (cooler) weekend.
